Brick & Mortar Calculator

Estimate bricks and mortar for a wall build so you can plan quantities before final layout and waste adjustments.

Important Use Notice

Planning calculator only. Do not rely on this page alone for structural design, permitting, code compliance, engineering signoff, procurement quantities, or contractual commitments.

Context

Number of bricks = wall area ÷ coverage per brick (with waste factor). Mortar is estimated per brick count.

Example

20 ft × 8 ft wall, standard bricks → ~1,200 bricks + 10 bags mortar
12 ft × 6 ft wall → ~650 bricks + 6 bags mortar

Formula

Bricks = (Length × Height) / Brick Coverage × 1.10

Add 10% waste. Mortar bags ≈ bricks / 120 (standard estimate).

Coverage depends on brick size and joint thickness

Next Step

System note: validate this estimate against local code and supplier requirements before ordering.

FAQ

How much waste should I add?

10% is standard. Add 15–20% for curved or detailed work.

What is the difference between modular and standard bricks?

Modular are slightly smaller to fit 8" modules with mortar joints.
